As i’ve pointed out before, the art is important when you’re conveying your story, especially in Anime. As you would expect, The Rising Of The Shield Hero has absolutely stunning art work, Minami Seira has my full respect. It’s a difficult task to create a fantasy world that draws you in, but it was done, and it is amazing.
🔊 INTRO
The Rising Of The Shield Hero intro opens with the japanese trap/rock/hiphop band MADKID with the song ”Rise”, which is a great song. MADKID is a dance and vocal unit, composed of two rappers, and three vocalists. They incorporate elements from the new generation of trap music and glitch hop genres, creating what some would call a new form of music. The lyrics in ”RISE” from my point of view is conveying the message about ”even though the world can bring you down, you should stand your ground and fight, don’t let them win, just rise up and deal with it.” Now, this is simply how i interpret it and I’d say it fits great into The Rising Of The Shield Hero. ✎ STORY/PLOT
The very ordinary otaku university student Naofumi Iwatani finds a book while he is in the library that summons him into an alternate world. He receives a mission as ”hero of the shield”, who is one of four heroes, the others being the sword, spear and bow. Their mission is to fight the disasters called ”Waves” that is wreaking chaos upon the world. Naofumi is truly excited about this great adventure and begins his journey with his fellow heroes. But he quickly finds out that the ”Hero of the shield” is seen as the weakest link out of the four heroes, events escalate and nothing ends up as he had planned. It’s not long until Naofumi is surprisingly betrayed by the very people who summoned him to save the world. As he is left to fend for himself with the whole world against him, including his fellow heroes, Naofumi vows to become the strongest and to accomplish what he was summoned to do, to save the world.
❗ Conclusion
Now, is the show worth watching? It’s actually not a run of the mill Isekai anime (thank god), It’s plot is actually great. It does carry a lot of thrilling and exciting moments, even though it can feel a bit lame at some points, it deserves people giving it a honest chance, don’t base the entire show out of one episode, i guarantee that by the end of episode 2, you’ll be hooked, i know i was.
